Full podcast: https://lovethenorth.ca/article/261011-sudbury-ward-12-matteo-raso Is the City of Greater Sudbury making the right decisions when spending taxpayers' hard-earned money? Are residents getting good value for the taxes they pay, or is there room for improvement? Ward 12 candidate Matteo Raso joins Love the North to discuss municipal spending, rising property taxes, city debt, and the financial challenges facing Greater Sudbury. When asked whether the city is getting it right, Raso offers a measured perspective. He believes Sudbury is doing a decent job managing its finances, although he acknowledges that not everything is perfect and improvements can certainly be made. Raso points to what he considers the city's relatively manageable debt position, suggesting Greater Sudbury has some borrowing capacity if necessary. However, he emphasizes that having the ability to borrow money doesn't necessarily mean the city should. On property tax increases, Raso recognizes that nobody wants to pay more, but argues that many increases are justified by the growing cost of delivering essential municipal services. Roads need maintenance, infrastructure requires investment, buses must operate, and city services have to be funded. But that raises an important question: Just because the city needs money to operate, does that mean every spending decision is justified? Residents are facing rising housing costs, grocery bills, utilities, and property taxes. Every additional dollar collected by the municipality is another dollar coming out of someone's household or business budget. The challenge for municipal government is finding the balance between maintaining essential services, improving infrastructure, controlling debt, and ensuring taxpayers receive meaningful value for their money. #LoveTheNorth #GreaterSudbury #SudburyElection2026 #Ward12 #MatteoRaso #TaxpayerMoney #PropertyTaxes #CityBudget #MunicipalSpending #SudburyPolitics
