In this episode of Love the North, mayoral candidate Rodney Newton discusses the importance of cleaning up Greater Sudbury, restoring pride in our neighbourhoods, and creating an environment where businesses actually want to invest. First impressions matter. When potential investors, visitors, and entrepreneurs arrive in a community, what do they see? Well-maintained streets, clean sidewalks, attractive storefronts, and vibrant public spaces? Or neglected properties, litter, deteriorating infrastructure, and empty buildings? A clean, welcoming city sends a powerful message: this is a community that takes pride in itself and believes in its future. And that confidence can be contagious. When existing businesses see improvements, they may feel more confident investing in their properties. When entrepreneurs see busy, attractive streets, they may be more willing to open a restaurant, retail shop, or service business. And when investors see a city moving in the right direction, new opportunities can follow. But revitalization requires more than simply picking up garbage. It means addressing neglected infrastructure, improving public safety, maintaining municipal properties, and making it easier for small businesses to succeed. Cleaning up the city alone won't solve every economic challenge, but it could be an important first step toward restoring confidence. The question for Greater Sudbury is simple: Are we creating a city where people want to live, work, shop, and invest? Because sometimes economic development begins with taking pride in what we already have. #LoveTheNorth #GreaterSudbury #RodneyNewton #ShopLocal
