In this episode of Love the North, Ward 11 candidate Amy Voz raises questions about municipal spending, financial accountability, and whether City Hall is investing in the services residents need most. Voz discusses the approximately $200-million downtown Event Centre and explains why she would have prioritized mental health, addiction treatment, and housing services before committing to such a major investment. However, with the project already moving forward, she believes the focus should now be on carefully scrutinizing how every dollar is spent and what taxpayers receive in return. But return on investment isn't just about dollars coming back into city coffers. Could investing in addiction treatment and stable housing reduce future demands on policing, emergency services, and the healthcare system? Could properly rebuilding roads and replacing aging underground infrastructure at the same time eliminate the expense of repeatedly digging up the same streets? These are the kinds of long-term financial decisions Voz believes deserve greater attention. She also questions whether Greater Sudbury is receiving its fair share of investment from provincial and federal governments, considering the enormous resource wealth generated in Northern Ontario. With property taxes continuing to place pressure on residents, every spending decision deserves scrutiny. Should taxpayers be asking City Hall to demonstrate measurable financial and community benefits before approving major expenditures? And perhaps the most important question of all: For every dollar the City spends today, how much value will residents receive tomorrow? #LoveTheNorth #AmyVoz #Ward11 #GreaterSudbury #TaxpayerDollars #ReturnOnInvestment #MunicipalSpending
