Full Podcast: https://lovethenorth.ca/article/261011-sudbury-ward-12-matteo-raso Ward 12 candidate Matteo Raso says roads and basic pedestrian infrastructure are some of the biggest problems he is hearing about while door knocking. His assessment of the roads in parts of Ward 12 is straightforward: **they are in really bad shape, and some have gone years without meaningful work.** But the issue goes beyond potholes and rough pavement. Raso says there are neighbourhoods where residents simply do not have sidewalks. That creates a major accessibility problem for seniors, people with disabilities, students and anyone trying to use public transit. He says seniors have told him they would like to give up their cars and take the bus — but even when they live near a bus stop, they may have to walk directly on the road to reach it because there is no sidewalk. For someone using a wheelchair or mobility device, the problem can be even worse. Raso says residents can be forced onto rough, uneven roads because there is simply no safer pedestrian route available. That means transit, road conditions and accessibility are all connected. **A bus stop is not truly accessible if you cannot safely get to it.** Raso says Ward 12 needs more investment in roads, sidewalks and public infrastructure so residents can move around their neighbourhoods safely — whether they drive, walk, use a wheelchair or depend on public transit. #Sudbury #Ward12 #MatteoRaso #Roads #Sidewalks #Accessibility #PublicTransit #Infrastructure #Seniors #GreaterSudbury #NorthernOntario #LoveTheNorth
